“In” with the Gold

A few years back, I was invited by a friend of mine who works as a fashion designer, to attend her ever first fashion show, I got excited because that was my first, as a artist and designer, I told myself that this is best way for me to get inspired because those days I was just a green horn. Indeed I was inspired by an antique gold cocktail dress with a bubble skirt, which I think made in the 1950s, and an exquisite mustard-colored silk cocoon. Despite being designed 50 years ago, both look like they were made just recently, modern with an exotic twist, it looks like it has a Moroccan detail and an Asian silhouette. So it is with the interior design that I can do for my condo, modern, almost sculptural, but still streamlined, with a couple of exotic details.

The open space plan creates a smooth transition from foyer to dining area to living area, offering space for entertaining guests. Sliding doors in Moroccan lattice detail open to reveal a bedroom, walk-in closet and master bath. Furniture pieces contrast with the modern lines of the space. Custom-made button-back dining chairs complement the sculptural dining table. Moroccan floor lamps stand like sentinels on either side of a black and white portrait. Adjacent is a built-up wall with origami-like tapered niches that features tree vintage dressmaker’s mannequin busts.
Customized glass orb chandeliers serve as jewelry for the slanted cove ceiling. In the living area, an ivory three-seater sofa from a Home frames a sculptural center table, and along with the center table, the table lamp introduces indigenous materials into the mix, customized classic armchair mustard with gold graces the corner by the window.

Vintage timepieces hang on the feature wall, framed by a backlit niche. The bedroom is an oasis of calm, but still exudes drama. With the headboard wall coved and backlit, the interior design decidedly feminine, and will appeal to artist who love to entertain.
